In this study, fly ash obtained from a coal burning power plant was used to remove iron from coal mine drainage as well as raising the pH to acceptable limits for natural water using column chromatography. The results of this study indicate that fly ash has the ability to completely remove iron and reduce acidity of coal mine water drainage.

Laboratory scale studies of Pd/γAl2O3 sorbents for the removal of trace contaminants from coalderived fuel gas at elevated temperatures Article in Fuel 108 · January 2010 with 15 Reads

interest in the water industry is the removal of trace contaminants from wastewater streams, ie before the water is discharged into the watercourse. In some parts of Europe this is an important application for carbons, particularly powdered activated carbon (PAC), which is dosed in a batchtype process rather than the continuous GACbased ...

Although trace contaminant removal is an issue facing various industries, this chapter focuses mostly on the water purification process. The role of nanofiltration (NF) in water and wastewater treatment, occurrence of trace contaminants and their environmental implications, separation processes and a review of current studies are presented in ...

EC with posttreatment filtration appears to effectively remove trace metal contaminants to potable water standards, but both reactor and source water parameters critically impact removal efficiency. Geologic and anthropogenic heavy metals contaminate drinking water for millions of people worldwide 1 .

While Rectisol is more costly, it is preferred for treating coalbased syngas because it allows for very deep sulfur removal (< ppmv H 2 S plus COS), and also because it can remove HCN, NH 3, and many metallic trace contaminants (including iron and nickelcarbonyls, and mercury) to provide additional catalyst protection.

The health and environmental impact of the coal industry includes issues such as land use, waste management, water and air pollution, caused by the coal mining, processing and the use of its addition to atmospheric pollution, coal burning produces hundreds of millions of tons of solid waste products annually, including fly ash, bottom ash, and fluegas desulfurization sludge, that ...

Selenium is highly elevated in Appalachian streams and stream organisms that receive alkaline mine drainage from mountaintop removal coal mining compared to unimpacted streams in the region. Adult aquatic insects can be important vectors of waterborne contaminants to riparian food webs, yet pathways of Se transport and exposure of riparian organisms are poorly characterized. We .

known for most trace contaminants. Not more than ten trace contaminants are presently monitored either in spacecraft or submarines, and the life of the activatedcharcoal beds is based primarily on empirical data and past experiences. In addition to removal by activated charcoal, many trace con

Compounds and Trace Contaminants Removal . In estimating the cost of electricity using coal gasifica tion integrated with carbon capture, the US Department of Energy (DOE) had outlined the use of following proven technologies for the removal of key contaminants [2]. A schematic of the overall process (referred to as the

Biogas produced in anaerobic digesters and landfills contains s, small solid particles in suspension, greases, particulates and other contaminants which must be removed from the gas by filtration prior to any downstream equipment or pipework. Failure to remove these impurities may lead to a malfunction of devices and processes downstream.

Abstract: For the last 40 years, Trojan Technologies has lead the industry in providing leading edge ultraviolet (UV) based technology for disinfection and contaminant removal from waste and wastewater. In this lecture, Dr. Sarathy will cover the basics of photochemistry, UV disinfection, and UVbased advanced oxidation processes.

The program has provided a survey of the literature on the characteristics of the sulfur, nitrogen, and trace element contaminants in coal, petroleum, shale oil, and tar sand oil, and has classified and analyzed methods employed to remove the contaminants from these fuel Q 2) types.

There exists an increasing need to develop a reliable method to detect trace contaminants in fuel gas derived from coal gasification. While Hg is subject to current and future regulations, As, Se, and P emissions may eventually be regulated. Sorbents are the most promising technology for the removal of contaminants from coalderived fuel gas, and it will be important to develop a rapid ...

Jan 29, 2016· The present paper reviewed the average concentrations of trace elements in soils near coal mine areas from various cities/countries to provide a current global summary of this issue. The contamination of soils was assessed by using global reference materials and various contamination indices. The results show that the average concentrations of trace elements varied widely: As .

New Technology for Trace Contaminant Acid Gas Removal and Sulfur Recovery from Coal . Removal of trace organic contaminants from aqueous solutions by air strippers AS and fixed bed carbon adsorper FBCA has been studied A trace organic treatment tool has been developed to capture and adapt the bestknown design procedures and to have

Once coal removal is complete, final regrading takes place and the area is revegetated. The operation is required to reclaim the mine to "AOC" or "approximate original contours" unless this requirement has been waived by the agency that has granted the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) permit for the operation.
